However, it takes a lot of fuel just to restart the car once the train has gone by, so in essence we are really wasting more fuel by doing this than saving, unless you are stuck for over 30 minutes, a situation that rarely occurs.
BlueTEC technology makes the most out of fuel consumption and assisting in reducing toxic emissions. A process called Selective Catalytic Reduction or SCR filters harmful exhaust gases by transferring them over to the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter then mixes these gases with a water-based solution known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid or DEF. As this process takes place, the pollutants are transformed into nitrogen and water based solution that is harmless when emitted. This means Sprinter efficiency is augmented because this process keeps the engine clean and uses less fuel overall, while reducing toxic emissions.
